Ex-Charlottetown Islanders prospect Morgan Messenger has been invited to the selection camp of Canada West camp for the World Junior 'A' Challenge.
The selection camp begins this weekend in Calgary, Alta.
Messenger, 18, was drafted by the P.E.I. Rocket in the sixth round, 95th overall, in 2012. The Barrington, N.S., native spent the 2012-13 season with Yarmouth Mariners scoring 19 goals and 34 points in 36 games to be named the MHL Rookie of the Year. Last season, Messenger scored 20 goals and 35 points in 47 games with the Mariners.
This season, Messenger has been playing with the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL and has scored eight goals and 17 points in 29 games.
The 2014 World Junior ‘A’ Challenge will be held Dec. 14-20 at the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley, Sask.
