Islanders fall 7-2 to Remparts in opening game

QUEBEC CITY, QUE. - Vladimir Tkachev and Adam Erne each scored a pair of goals to lead the Quebec Remparts to a 7-2 win over the Charlottetown Islanders Friday night in Game 1 of second round action at the Colisee Pepsi.

Tkachev ended the night with three points (2-1) as Remparts captain Kurt Etchegary also finished with three points, picking up three assists. Filip Chlapik and Alexandre Goulet tallied goals for the Islanders.

The Remparts lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.

The game’s first goal unfolded after an unusual turn of events. Erne scored around the eight minute mark, but neither referee saw the puck enter the net. The play resumed for a few minutes when Kameron Kielly scored at 10:53 to stop the play. Video review was used to call Erne’s goal good, which would override Kielly’s goal. Erne’s goal was credited at the 10:53 mark with Etchegary and Dymotro Timashov drawing assists. The goal was Erne’s seventh of the playoffs.

Just 21 seconds later the Remparts made it 2-0 with Anthony Duclair’s second goal of the playoffs. Marc-Olivier Roy and Guillaume Gauthier drew assists.

Ross MacDougall gave the Remparts a 3-0 lead at 16:04 with an unassisted tally for his first of the playoffs.

In the second period, Jerome Verrier increased Quebec’s lead to 4-0 with his fourth of the playoffs at the 2:13 mark. Etchegary and Tkachev drew assists.

Erne’s second of the game, and league-leading eighth of the playoffs, made it 5-0 Remparts at 4:06. Timashov and Etchegary drew assists.

The Remparts made it 6-0 with Tkachev’s second of the playoffs at 5:44 with Verrier and Raphael Maheux drawing assists.

Fast forward to the 7:26 mark of the third period where Tkachev’s second of the game gave the Remparts a commanding 7-0 lead. Matt Murphy drew the lone assist.

The Islanders got on the board at the 8:31 mark with Chlapik finding the back of the net for his first career Q playoff goal. Daniel Sprong and Will Thompson drew assists.

Goulet made it a 7-2 game with a power play goal at 14:24 with his second of the playoffs. Ryan MacKinnon and Sprong drew assists.
