Laplante, 18, played two and a half season with the Islanders/Rocket scoring 21 goals and 52 points in 107 games. He was dealt to the Victoriaville Tigres on Dec. 22 and scored 13 goals and 24 points in 31 games with the Tigres.
The Ste-Martine, Que. native was drafted in the third round, 62nd overall, by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Laplante was limited to only 18 games during the 2012-2013 season due to a shoulder injury. In the 2013 playoffs with the Rocket, he scored three goals (all in Game 6 versus Val-d'Or) and two assists. With Victoriaville, Laplante put up three goals and six points in five games during this year's playoffs.
The six-foot, 184-pound centreman, served as an alternate captain this year with the Islanders prior to being traded along with defenceman Julien Leduc.
Charlottetown received defenceman Luc Deschenes, 16, a fourth-round pick in 2014 and a first-round pick in 2015.
