Former P.E.I. Rocket defenceman Jordon Southorn signed with the Fort Wayne Komets of the East Coast Hockey League, the team announced on Wednesday.

Southorn, now 25, spent four seasons in the QMJHL with the Rocket from 2006 to 2010. The Rocket drafted Southorn 17th overall in the 2006 QMJHL Entry Draft. In 258 regular season games, Southorn scored 27 goals and 105 points. He sits fifth in Rocket/Islanders franchise history for most career games played and sits second in franchise history for career points by a defenceman.

The Montreal, Que., native was drafted in the fourth round by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft but never signed an entry-level contract.

Since his departure from the QMJHL, Southorn played with Trenton Devils of the ECHL in 2010-11 collecting nine assists and a minus-13 rating in 35 games. The following season he appeared in 28 games with the Trenton Titan (ECHL) scoring six goals and 16 points and appeared in 22 more games with the Wheeling Nailers, also of the ECHL, scoring two goals and five points. He also appeared in two games with the AHL's Providence Bruins.

In 2012-13, Southorn spent the entire season with the ECHL's Elmira Jackals collecting 11 goals and 34 points with a plus-28 rating in 64 games.

Southorn played three more games for Elmira in the 2013-14 season, collecting a goal and four points before heading to the United Kingdom to play three games with the Dundee Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League. He then finished up the year with the Fort Wayne Komets scoring 12 goals and 32 points in 53 games.

Last season, Southorn played with the AHL's Portland Pirates for 26 games collecting three goals and nine points. He also appeared in nine games with the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators scoring two goals and nine points.
