Islanders drop Titan 5-2


BATHURST, N.B. - Spenser Cobbold’s early second period goal stood as the winner as the visiting Charlottetown Islanders skated to a 5-2 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Wednesday night at K.C. Irving Regional Centre.

The Islanders have now won four-straight games and have picked up points in its last five games. Charlottetown improves to 32-27-1-4 on the year as the Titan falls to 15-42-5-2.

Kameron Kielly (1-1), Alexandre Goulet (1-1), Samuel Guilbault (1-1) and Bradley Kennedy (0-2) all enjoyed a multi-point night. Christophe Boivin scored both Titan goals.

The Islanders opened the scoring at the 9:02 mark of the first period with a power play goal from Daniel Sprong for his 36th of the season. Filip Chlapik and Goulet drew assists.


Chlapik’s assist was his 40th of the season giving him 70 points in 60 games which sets a new franchise record for most points by a rookie in one season.

Kielly then gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at 15:53 with his 15th tally of the season with Guilbault and Kennedy drawing assists.

In the second period, the Titan cut the lead in half with Boivin’s first of the game and 10th of the season at 5:14. Mark Simpson drew the lone assist.

It didn’t take the Islanders long to respond as Cobbold regained the two-goal lead just 33 second later with his 11th of the season. Dexter Weber and Kennedy drew assists.

The Islanders made it 4-1 with a highlight-reel goal from Goulet for his 33rd goal of the season on the power play at 12:43. Daryl MacCallum and Ryan MacKinnon drew assists.

The third period nearly went scoreless until Guilbault buried his first career QMJHL goal at the 16:36 mark. Kielly and Oliver Cooper picked up helpers.

Boivin scored his second of the game and 11th of the season with a power play goal at 18:38. Guillaume Brisebois and Felix Boivin drew assists.

MacCallum made 29 saves in the win for Charlottetown. Daniel Vautour made 31 saves in the losing goal for the Titan.

The Islanders are back home Friday and Saturday for back-to-back games against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Both games are at 7 p.m. AST.
