New York Islanders sign Johnston to entry-level contract

The New York Islanders have signed Charlottetown Islanders forward Ross Johnston to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced today.

Johnston, 21, scored a career-high 18 goals and 32 points in 44 games this season with the Charlottetown Islanders while maintaining a plus-eight rating with 124 penalty minutes.

The native of Charlottetown, P.E.I., spent four seasons in the QMJHL since 2011-12 after being drafted in the sixth round by the Moncton Wildcats in 2011. In 195 career regular season games, the six-foot-five, 225-pound winger scored 42 goals and 91 points with Moncton, Victoriaville and Charlottetown.

Johnston also participated in New York Islanders rookie camp in the summer of 2014.
