Drakkar shuts out Islanders 5-0
Two goals less than two minutes apart in the second period made all the difference for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in a 5-0 win over the Charlottetown Islanders Friday night at Centre Henry-Leonard.
Antoine Pouliot and Luca Ciampini scored 1:20 apart in the second period to open the scoring and never looked back. The Drakkar improves to 19-10-3-1 on the season.
The Islanders lose its second-straight game of their road trip and drop to 15-17-1-1 on the season. It is the fourth time this season the Islanders have been shutout and the second time in four games.
The first period ended scoreless with the Drakkar holding a 10-8 advantage in shots.
Pouliot opened the scoring at 6:09 with his fifth goal of the season. Skylar Strumas drew the lone assist.
Ciampini made it a 2-0 Drakkar game at 7:29 with his 19th goal of the season. Guillaume Beaudry and Simon Chevrier drew assists.
Shots were 11-8 in Charlottetown’s favour.
In the third period, Frederic Gamelin made it 3-0 with his fifth goal of the season at 9:20. Alexis Vanier and Maxime St-Cyr drew assists.
St-Cyr added his 26th of the season at the 15-minute mark for a 4-0 Drakkar lead. Bokondji Imama and Nicolas Leblond drew assists. Just 1:35 later, Imama added his 10th of the season for a 5-0 Drakkar lead.
Philippe Cadorette made 26 saves to pick up his fifth shutout of the season. Daryl MacCallum made 20 saves in the loss for Charlottetown.
The Islanders wrap up its road trip Sunday evening in Rimouski for a 5 p.m. tilt against the Oceanic.
Islanders Insights:
-Islanders were scoreless on three power play opportunities but were a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
-Both Kameron Kielly and Filip Rydstrom were 50 per cent on the face-off dot. Kielly was 10-for-20; Rydstrom was 11-for-22.
-Islanders outhit the Drakkar 17-15. Guillaume Rioux-Legault, Oliver Cooper and Rydstrom led the way with three hits.
-Rydstrom and Daniel Sprong each had four shots on goal.

Islanders Country "Islander of the Game":
-No question about this one, definitely Daryl MacCallum. The score may not show, but MacCallum played very well to give Mason McDonald a night off. MacCallum made some great saves early in the game.
