Moynihan, Fucale lead Mooseheads past Islanders


Danny Moynihan scored a hat-trick and Zachary Fucale made 28 saves as the Halifax Mooseheads handed the Charlottetown Islanders a 5-0 loss Friday night at Scotiabank Centre.

The Islanders have lost its third straight game, after coming off a four-game winning streak, and are now 14-15-1-1 on the season. Halifax has passed the Islanders for third place in the Maritimes Division with a 14-13-2-1 record.

Nikolaj Ehlers and Matt Murphy each picked up three assists for the Mooseheads.

Moynihan started the scoring just 3:36 into the contest with his 12th goal of the season. Ehlers drew the lone assist. Moments later, Philippe Gadoury made it 2-0 with his 11th of the season on the power play at 4:34. Assists were given to Ehlers and Murphy. Shots were 13-9 in favour of Halifax.


In the second period, Moynihan had the lone goal at 1:52 for his second of the game. Murphy and Vincent Watt drew assists. Shots were 9-7 in favour of Charlottetown.

Halifax made it 4-0 just 1:36 into the final frame with Brett Crossley’s first QMJHL goal. The goal was unassisted.

Moynihan completed the hat-trick at 10:58 for his 14th goal of the season. Ehlers and Murphy drew assists.

Fucale picked up his second consecutive shutout against the Islanders this season.

Mason McDonald took the loss making 22 saves. Daryl MacCallum played the final 8:37 and stopped all four shots he received.

The Islanders will look to snap its losing streak tomorrow night when they host the Moncton Wildcats at 7 p.m. Moncton has won all four games against Charlottetown this season.
