Goulet, Islanders spank Tigres 8-4
VICTORIAVILLE, QUE. - Alexandre Goulet scored a pair of goals and assists to lead the visiting Charlottetown Islanders to an 8-4 win over the Victoriaville Tigres Saturday night.
Goulet was not the only Islanders player to have a multi-point night as Ross Johnston (2-1), Filip Chlapik (2-1), Ryan MacKinnon (1-2) and Daniel Sprong (0-3) picked up three points to lead Charlottetown to its second-straight won if its three-game road trip.
The Islanders are now 22-19-1-3 on the season. The Tigres fall to 21-20-1-4.
Goulet opened the scoring at the 7:21 mark of the first period with an unassisted goal for his 26th of the season.
Charlottetown took a 2-0 lead with a power play goal from MacKinnon at 16:22. The goal was the Islanders captain’s seventh of the season. Sprong and Goulet drew helpers.
Shots were 14-7 in favour of Charlottetown.
In the second period, the Islanders made it a 3-0 game at 2:15 with Chlapik’s 20th goal of the season. MacKinnon and Guillaume Rioux-Legault drew assists.
Spenser Cobbold made it 4-0 Islanders at 4:19 with his sixth of the season with Johnston picking up the lone assist.
The Tigres struck back just 38 seconds later with a goal from Samuel Blais for his 20th of the campaign. Daniel De Sousa and Carl Marois drew assists.
Johnston, who made his return to Victoriaville where he played last season, gave the Islanders a 5-1 lead with his fifth goal of the season at the 10:04 mark. Chlapik and Goulet picked up the assists.
Charlottetown made it 6-1 when Chlapik netted his second goal of the game and 21st of the season with a power play tally at the 17-minute mark. Sprong and MacKinnon drew assists.
Shots were 15-10 in favour of the Islanders.
Goulet made it 7-1 Islanders with his second of the game and 27th of the season with a power play goal just 2:07 into the final frame. Luc Deschenes and Sprong drew helpers.
Victoriaville put themselves back on the board with Charles-Eric Legare burying his 16th goal of the season at 7:17. Jordan Ty Fournier and Felix Lauzon drew assists.
At the 11:33 mark, Johnston scored his second of the game and sixth of the season to give Charlottetown a commanding 8-2 lead. Oliver Cooper and Filip Rydstrom drew assists.
The Tigres were quick to respond as Pascal Laberge scored just 17 seconds later. Blais and Marois drew assists.
Lauzon drew last blood for the Tigres to make it an 8-4 game with his sixth of the season at 17:34. Blais and Nikita Li picked up helpers.
Tigres outshoot the Islanders 9-8.
Daryl MacCallum made 22 saves in the win for Charlottetown.
Chase Marchand started for the Tigres but was yanked after allowing four goals on 17 shots. Olivier Tremblay made 16 saves on 20 shots and was awarded the lose for the Tigres.
The Islanders wrap up its three-in-three road trip tomorrow evening in Quebec against the Remparts. Game time is 4 p.m. AST.
