After being named the QMJHL 's second star of the week, Charlottetown Islanders goaltender Mason McDonald received national honours by being named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week today.
The period is for the week ending Jan. 18, 2015.
McDonald helped the Islanders pick up two of its three wins over the weekend on the road in Quebec. In those two wins, McDonald posted a shutout and stopped 67 of 69 shots fired his way for a 1.00 goals against average and a 0.971 save percentage.
On Friday in Sherbrooke, McDonald made 31 saves to earn first-star honours as he posted his first shutout of the season and as an Islander. On Sunday in Quebec City, McDonald made 36 saves against the Remparts in a 3-2 win.
McDonald has posted a 19-17 (won-lost) record this season with the Islanders, along with a 2.99 goals against average and a 0.904 save percentage. He sits sixth in the QMJHL in goals against and third in the league for his save percentage.
The six-foot-four, 200-pound, right-handed catching goalie was drafted 34th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2014.
Michael McNevin of the OHL's Owen Sound Attack was also considered for the award.
