Chlapik coming to the Islanders

The waiting is over. Filip Chlapik has agreed to play with the Charlottetown Islanders this season.

The 17-year-old Prague, Czech Republic native was selected 11th overall by the Islanders in last month's CHL Import Draft. There were undisclosed items that needed to be worked out.

"He's signed, sealed and delivered," said Islanders General Manager Grant Sonier in an interview with The Charlottetown Guardian.

Chlapik scored 16 goals and 35 points in 38 games with the HC Sparta Praha in the Under-20 Czech League.

The six-foot-one, 183-pound centreman will represent his native Czech Republic under-18 team at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament from Aug. 11 to 16. He will report to Islanders' training camp later.

Charlottetown also drafted Filip Rydstrom of Sweden with the 56th overall selection in the 2014 CHL Import Draft. Rydstrom had already committed to joining the Islanders when he was drafted.

Training camp begins Monday Aug. 11 in Pownal.
