Isles acquire Paolo from Cataractes

The Charlottetown Islanders have acquired defenceman Gianni Paolo from the Shawinigan Cataractes.

In return, the Islanders send a second-round pick in 2015 to Shawinigan. The Islanders also receive a fifth-round pick in 2015 in the deal.

Paolo, 18, hails from Hope, R.I. and was originally drafted in the 12th round by Shawinigan in 2013. The five-foot-eight, 165-pound frame split last season with the Portland Junior Pirates and the South Shore Kings of the USPHL Premier. In 17 games with Portland, Paolo scored two goals for nine points. He was pointless in 18 games with South Shore.

The trade was made official on the QMJHL website today.
