Penalties cost the Charlottetown Islanders in a 7-3 exhibition loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan Saturday afternoon in Pownal.
The Titan struck three times on the power play and and scored three goals in the opening three minutes of the third period to run away with things.
Charlottetown is now 0-2-0-0 in pre-season action. The Titan starts off 1-0-0-0.
Islanders rookie Mitchell Balmas, who scored the Islanders first goal in the third period, said it was a tough game.
"We couldn't get things going and had some penalty trouble but we started fighting near the end."
The Islanders were coming off a 5-2 loss to the Moncton Wildcats less than 24 hours ago in a game which the Wildcats scored four power play goals on 12 opportunities.
Balmas said today was the same kind of game last night as it was mostly the same players playing.
"It was a little rough here and there but it was good."
The Titan opened the scoring at 10:16 with Jimmy Hunnington finding the back of net. The Titan took a 2-0 lead with a power play goal from Nicolas Dumulong at 17:11. Dumulong added another power play marker at 18:59 to give the Titan a 3-0 lead. Shots were 18-10 in favour of the Islanders.
Bathurst had the lone goal of the second period with Marc-Andre Gauvreau striking at 17:09.
The Titan made it 5-0 just 26 seconds into the third period with Egor Popov scoring his first of the period. Moments later, Liam Hynes made it 6-0 at 1:28. The Islanders got on the board with Balmas scoring at 1:46 with an unassisted tally.
"Brad (Kennedy) made a nice play on the boards and I got it and went around the defence…so I decided to take a shot. Good play all around.”
The Titan made it 7-1 with Popov adding his second of the game at 3:05 with another power play marker. The Islanders made it 7-2 with Nathan Yetman scoring short-handed at 6:53. David Henley and Lucas Sangster drew assists. Julien Avon made it 6-3 at 10:36.
Darryl MacCallum played the first and second period and allowed four goals on 27 shots. Logan Cooke started the third period an allowed three goals on eight shots.
For Bathurst, Alexandre Lagace started and stopped all 26 shots. Antoine Landry played the third period and allowed three goals on 14 shots.
Islanders next pre-season game is Friday Aug. 22 in Acadie-Bathurst against the Titan at 7:30 p.m. AST.
