Nathan Yetman was among four players cut today. |
Forwards Craig MacLauchlan, Zach Beaton and Nathan Yetman have been released. Defenceman Anthony Cortese has also been released.
Both MacLauchlan and Cortese were battling for the third and final overage spot on this year's team. With the additions of Ryan MacKinnon and Ross Johnston, several overage players (born in 1994) were battling for the final spot. Only Spenser Cobbold and Mike DiPaolo are left for the final spot.
MacLauchlan, a Charlottetown native, scored two goals and six points in 57 games with the Islanders last season.
Cortese scored eight goals and 33 points for the Islanders last season. The Montreal, Que. native came to the Island via trade with Gatineau during the 2012-13 season when the Islanders were the P.E.I. Rocket.
Yetman, 18, was a sixth round pick by the P.E.I. Rocket in 2012 and scored five goals and 15 points in two seasons and 88 regular season games with the Rocket and Islanders.
Beaton, 19, was acquired by the Islanders at last year's draft. The Stratford native scored two goals and three points and put up 84 penalty minutes in 45 games last season. He had 12 fighting majors last season.
The Islanders have 30 players remaining in camp - two goaltenders, 11 defencemen and 17 forwards.
