The Charlottetown Islanders make their visit to "Wildtown" tonight for a Halloween tilt against the Moncton Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.

Charlottetown is riding on a small, but important, two-game win streak and coming a 4-1 win in Halifax on Wednesday. The Wildcats are coming off a 6-5 win in Shawinigan on Sunday.

Both clubs have already met each other this season back on Sept. 28 at the Eastlink Centre. Moncton came out as 5-3 victors. 

A huge blow to the Wildcats last week as captain and leading scorer Chris Lalonde will be out of the lineup four to six weeks with a lower-body injury. Lalonde has 12 goals and 25 points.

Missing for the Islanders are Mitchell Balmas and Samuel Guilbault who are taking part in the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia and Lambton, Ont. Ross Johnston remains out of the lineup.

Chaddock scores winner in Islanders debut


Charlottetown Islanders rookie Chris Chaddock scored the game-winning goal in his first career QMJHL game as the Islanders downed the Halifax Mooseheads 4-1 Wednesday night at Scotiabank Centre.

The win improves the Islanders to 8-7-1-1 on the season. Halifax drops to 5-10-1-1.

Charlottetown also broke a 10-game losing streak against the Mooseheads and won its first game in Halifax since Jan. 6, 2012. The Islanders last beat Halifax on Sept. 13, 2013.

Guillaume Rioux-Legault (1-1) and Filip Chlapik (0-2) led the charge for the Islanders.

Charlottetown opened the scoring at the 10:29 mark of the first period with defenceman Rioux-Legault scoring his second goal of the season. Chlapik drew the lone assist. Shots were 13-10 in favour of the Mooseheads.

In the second period, the Mooseheads tied the game with a power play goal from Philippe Gadoury at 6:41. The goal was his sixth of the season as Timo Meier and Nikolaj Ehlers drew assists.

The tie didn’t last long as Chaddock finished off a beautiful tic-tac-toe passing play with Chlapik and Daniel Sprong to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead at 7:52. Shots were 11-10 in favour of Halifax.

In the third period, Luc Deschenes gave the Islanders a two-goal lead with a power play goal at 10:52. Oliver Cooper and Dexter Weber drew assists on Deschenes’ second goal of the season. The scoring was capped off with an empty netter by Spenser Cobbold for his first goal of the season. Kameron Kielly and Rioux-Legault drew assists. Shots were 13-5 Halifax.

Mason McDonald made 36 saves in the win for Charlottetown and sees his record improve to 6-6 on the season. Zachary Fucale took the loss for Halifax making 21 saves.

The Islanders are in Moncton on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against the Wildcats.

The Charlottetown Islanders will make their second trip of the season to Moose Country tonight, where they will be looking for their first win in Halifax since Jan. 6, 2012.

Despite struggling, the Mooseheads are 2-0-0-0 against the Islanders this season and have won 10 straight games between the two clubs. The Mooseheads have five wins on the season, two against Charlottetown.

Chris Chaddock will be making his Islanders debut tonight. The Islanders signed the 17-year-old on Monday after skating and practicing with the team last week. Josh Shatford, 18, will also be in the lineup after being called up on Monday.
