Ex-Rocket Nestrasil sticks in Motown



Former P.E.I. Rocket forward Andrej Nestrasil has cracked the opening night roster for the Detroit Red Wings.

The now 23-year-old, Prague, Czech Republic native, spent the 2010-2011 season with the P.E.I. Rocket scoring 19 goals and 70 points in 58 games. That same season, he represented the Czech Republic at the 2011 World Junior Championships scoring a goal and three points in six games.

Nestrasil joined the Rocket along with Travis McIsaac via trade with the Victoriaville Tigres on June 4, 2010. In return the Tigres received defenceman Vincent Richer, third-, fourth-, and eighth-round picks in 2010 and second- and third-round picks in 2011.

Nestrasil was originally drafted eighth overall by the Victoriaville Tigres in the 2008 CHL Import Draft. In two seasons with the Tigres from 2008 to 2010, Nestrasil scored 38 goals and 108 points in 116 games.

The Detroit Red Wings drafted Nestrasil in the third round, 75th overall, in 2009.

Nestrasil spent the last three seasons with Detroit's AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins scoring 22 goals and 45 points in 120 games. He has also spent some time in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye scoring 18 goals and 70 points in 91 games.
