Ex-Rocket Currie signs with ECHL's Bakersfield Condors
Former P.E.I. Rocket captain Josh Currie has signed with the Bakersfield Condor of the East Coast Hockey League.
The team announced the news on Wednesday Aug. 27.
Currie, 21, played four seasons with the P.E.I. Rocket from 2009 to 2013. The Charlottetown native finished third in QMJHL scoring during his overage year with 49 goals and 104 points in 68 games.
In four seasons with the Rocket, Currie scored 97 goals and 185 points in 237 regular season games.
In a team press release, Currie said Bakersfield will be a fresh start.
"I want to build off the experience and season I had last year. I was able to learn the expectations of being a pro and know that I need to focus as much defensively as offensively."
Currie also added in the press release he has familiarity with Condors Head Coach J.F. Houle from playing against his teams in the QMJHL.
Currie signed with the Gwinnett Gladiators, also of the ECHL, last season and picked up 15 goals and 31 points in 70 games.
