Mike DiPaolo signs with AHL's Springfield Falcons
Former Charlottetown Islanders defenceman Mike DiPaolo has signed with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Springfield is the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets.
The 20-year-old skated in 51 games with the Islanders last season, recording four assists and 165 penalty minutes.
“I’m pretty excited,” said the Brantford, Ont., native. “I wasn’t really expecting anything to start off the year but I’m glad I had a good camp.”
DiPaolo attended Columbus’ rookie camp and took part in the Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich.
“I want to be up there and be in every game and improve and develop. I just want to play how I play - physical.”
Springfield opens their 2014-2015 season in Syracuse against the Crunch at 7 p.m. EST.
