What People Are Saying:
Last Word On Sports: Sprong is likely to be the highest drafted Dutch born player ever. He moved to Canada in 2005 to face stronger competition than what was available in the Netherlands. Sprong’s 30 goals was the most by any 1997 born player in the CHL this season. He’s got great speed off the wing, and a bullet wrister with a deadly release. Is dangerous every time he touches the puck, and loves to shoot. Has some great stick handling ability and can be a good passer as well. He must get stronger and be better at taking a hit. He is already good positionally.
Ryan Kennedy THNPotent shot, strong on his skates and whip-smart. Sprong was a force for the Islanders.
Future Considerations: A strong offensive player…he’s quick and extremely involved in every play…an explosive player who can create chances out of nothing…strong skater and very slick hands…a wicked shot and can snipe top shelf...not easily pushed around, but still does need to add strength to truly dominate…he’s adaptable and able to find ways to make an impact in every game...defense needs to come along and he isn't very physical, but his offensive skill set will make him a game breaker at the pro level…at times, he shows some real initiative in his own zone though, blocking shots and breaking up plays…works his butt off both on and off the ice to improve his game.
Draft Buzz Hockey : Scouting Report: Daniel Sprong is the kind of one dimensional player you find yourself making excuses for the more he flashes that one dimension. The Dutch born, North American raised (circa 2005) forward has a penchant for breakneck speed and flair with the puck in open space. With wide shoulders, Sprong carries himself with Alpha male qualities that scream top line difference maker. Elusive and fast, he cuts into the ice sharply demonstrating a skating ability that allows him to be a constant threat. Once he has the puck, he can deke with the best of them, as well as dish it with accuracy. His shots are not terribly hard, but they are sneaky and frequently snapped in screens/off quick movements. Getting the puck presents a bit of a challenge for Sprong, as he can get too comfortable on the perimeter waiting around or even coming to a standstill. Unlike some of the top forwards, he doesn't give off 100% confidence that he will retain the puck at times simply because he needs to get stronger and show more compete. We hope this exciting forward can add some more depth to his game, as he has the potential to rise into the top group of forwards if he does.
Looking Forward:  It looked like Daniel has had a slow start to his season by admittedly trying to do too much himself.  Once he was able to relax is when his game really took off.  If Daniel continues the pace as hot as he is right now, his stock will definitely be on the rise.
