Charlottetown Islanders forward Filip Chlapik has been invited to training camp for the Czech Republic Men’s Under-20 team at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

A source confirmed the news yesterday.

Chlapik, 17, is currently in his first QMJHL season with the Islanders and leads the team in scoring with 15 goals and 36 points in 28 games. He will leave for the Czech Republic on Dec. 6 where their camp opens up on Dec. 12.

“I don’t believe it,” said Chlapik after Charlottetown’s 6-5 win over Saint John Thursday night. “It was my dream to play for Czech Republic. When I knew it I was so happy I called my parents.”

The Islanders selected Chlapik with the 11th overall pick in the 2014 CHL Import Draft.

The 2015 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship begins Dec. 26, 2014 in Toronto and Montreal.

Czech Republic opens the tournament on Boxing Day against Sweden at 5 p.m. EST at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ont.
