McDonald named QMJHL's third star of the week

Charlottetown Islanders goaltender Mason McDonald was named the third star of the week, the QMJHL announced today.

The week is the period for Nov. 10-16.

The 18-year-old, Halifax, N.S. native helped the Islanders pick up two wins over the weekend, allowing two goals for a 1.00 goals against average and a 0.962 save percentage.



On Saturday against Victoriaville, McDonald had his shutout bid spoiled with 4.9 seconds left in regulation but made 28 saves to secure a 2-1 victory. On Sunday against Drummondville, McDonald made 23 saves in a 5-1 win.

McDonald sits sixth amongst goalies with a 2.78 goals against average and his 0.913 save percentage sits him fifth in the league.

The Calgary Flames drafted McDonald 34th overall in 2014.

Moncton Wildcats forward Conor Garland was named the first star for the second straight week as Val-d'Or Foreurs forward Julien Gauthier was the week's second star.
