Audette's late goal burns Islanders

Daniel Audette scored with 15 seconds remaining in regulation as the Sherbrooke Phoenix took a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Charlottetown Islanders Friday night at Eastlink Centre.

The goal all started from a face-off win by Phoenix forward Raphael Lafontaine, said Audette.

"I just went to the net and it turned out right in front of my stick and I just put it in."

The win improves the Phoenix to 15-9-0-2. The Islanders drop to 14-13-1-1 on the season.

Islanders forward Ross Johnston said the late goal hurts.

"We didn't lose the game in the last 15 seconds. I thought coming out for the third, even the second, we were too flat...we should have taken advantage of it earlier."

Sherbrooke battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the second period.

"I think we started off too slow but big comeback in the second and third and we were able to get that goal in the third," said Audette.

Johnston said the Islanders came out flat in the second period.

"When you come out flat against that team they'll capitalize on your mistakes."

Filip Chlapik got the scoring started with his 15th goal of the season at 1:40 on the game's first shot on goal. Mason McDonald and Ryan MacKinnon drew assists.

The Islanders took a 2-0 lead at the 15-minute mark with a power play goal from Johnston. Daniel Sprong and Chlapik drew assists in Johnston's second of the season.

Shots were 14-13 in favour of Sherbrooke.

In the second period Tim Wieser put Sherbrooke on the board at 10:34 with his 24th of the season. Vincent Deslauriers and Kay Schweri drew assists.

Just 36 second later, Charles-Eric Legare's 10th of the season tied the game. Julien Bahl drew the lone assist. Shots in the second were 12-5 Sherbrooke.

Audette's game winning goal was his 14th of the season. Lafontaine and Aaron Hoyles drew assists.

Alex Bureau made 21 saves in the win for Sherbrooke. McDonald took the loss for Charlottetown making 37 saves.

The Charlottetown Islanders travel to Moncton on Sunday for a 2 p.m. tilt against the Wildcats.

The Sherbrooke Phoenix travels to Bathurst to battle the Titan tomorrow at 7 p.m. AST
